Who was to blame for the shutdown of the American government?
Lets get this straight, there is only one party that is to blame for the first government shutdown in 17 years and that party is the Republican party. The debate that happened last year in Washington and it was even between the Republicans or the Democrats or even the government spending priorities. It was basically shutdown because the Republicans wanted to find a way to destroy "Obamacare".
The House of Representatives made a bill that would allow the government to continue work but they would need to cut down on funding Obamacare. But for Democrats, they thought that this was insane because the Affordable Care Act is the president's greatest achievement and President Barack Obama will not sign a bill the delays or kills it entirely. Why should he? Obamacare is the law of the land and it was passed by Congress then signed by the president, and finally confirmed by the US Supreme Court and it is already going into effect. But the Republicans used the possibility of a US government shutdown and a failure on Americas debt to try and put an end to it. Although these series of events is the conclusion of the Republican party's descent into causing the shutdown of the American government. The US system of government with the use of checks & balances is the most important part because the Republicans must work with the Democrats or the House of Representatives half to work with the Senate and both of these groups must find or unify under one idea with each other and with the president. Members of the party can view the government shutdown as a catastrophe and they viewed Obamacare as the main source of its problems. John Boehner, the Republican speaker of the House of Representatvies wanted to bring a bill to the House delaying Obamacare by one year. But it had not worked and the bill was vetoed. Although the government shut down for a few days, the US came close to a debt default and the Republicans later conceded defeat and brought a new budget resolution and fixed the shutdown in its entirety. But the shutdown last year is an important reminder that the government's dysfunction is what defines US democracy today. |
